A step to conserve water is the step to
secure the future. The most essential among all the natural resources on earth
is water. A drop of water is worth more than a sack of gold for the thirsty
man.
Food, air and water are fundamental
elements for survival of a human body. Three fourths of the earth’s surface is
sheltered with sea water which cannot be consumed fresh by men for drinking
purpose. Drinking water is therefore a rare commodity. Water being one of the
most vital necessities of life, becoming an ever-increasing scare resource,
needs cautious planning and management, especially in the perspective of
meeting the demands of an increasing population. Ease of use of safe quality
drinking water is being condensed due to pollution from sewage and industrial
waste. Hence even water from natural resources like catchment areas, rivers and
lakes is contaminated and not fit for drinking because it contains minerals as
well as organic impurities. In cities, due to industrialization, the industrial
throw away will contaminate rain water, so water needs treatment before it can
be consumed by man.
Ways
to save it: Plant more trees,
Making harvesting pits, Constructing dams – Is a great idea to save water for
future, Reducing pollution in all levels , Minimize the usage of water used by
every individual – Save water without wasting, use limited water resources for
washing, bathing, flushing and for other personal uses , Rainwater Harvesting such as
Catchment, Conveyance and storage - gathering and collection of water from the
rooftop. The traditional method of rain water harvesting is the most effective
and simple way to conserve the water, Historical
Water Bodies as recharging point for water conservation. Industries
should help to save water by recycling water wherever possible.
Benefits
on Saving Water: Cuts waste water flows, especially overflowing of gutters
which contaminates the environment, Environment benefits include eco system and
habitat protection, Saving water will reduce the cost of mains water supply and
wastewater disposal, Water conservation helps in improving the quality of your
drinking water etc.
